💨 Abstract
Hurricane Erick rapidly intensified near Mexico's southern Pacific Coast, gaining 50 mph in 18 hours. While it's not unusual in strength, its quick intensification is becoming more common in a warming climate. The hurricane is expected to continue strengthening as it approaches land, though it's not as powerful or late-season as the deadly Hurricane Otis from 2023.
