💨 Abstract
Environmental groups and Michigan's attorney general challenged a federal order to keep a coal-fired power plant open this summer, arguing there's no energy emergency. The plant, Consumers Energy’s J.H. Campbell, was set to close by May 31 but was ordered to stay open until late August due to potential electricity shortfalls. The Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) acknowledged a potential "elevated risk" during extreme weather but stated there should be enough electricity.
