💨 Abstract
Hong Kong has tightened prison rules, allowing authorities to restrict visits from certain lawyers and religious personnel on national security grounds. Effective July 2025, magistrates can issue warrants to bar specific legal and religious visits if deemed harmful to national security or public safety. Critics fear this could undermine inmate rights, especially for political activists. The city, with two national security laws, has seen hundreds arrested for protest-related offenses.
