Cleo Laine, renowned for her distinctive contralto voice and acclaimed as Britain's greatest jazz artist, passed away at 97. Born Clementina Dinah Campbell, she began performing at age 3 and earned recognition in the 1950s with the Johnny Dankworth Seven. Laine had a versatile career, spanning jazz, opera, and theater, and was made a dame in 1997.
