💨 Abstract

Japan's secretive death penalty system has gained attention after executing serial killer Takahiro Shiraishi. Executions happen in unassuming buildings like Tokyo Detention House, where convicts may learn of their fate hours before. Recently, 21-year-old Yuki Endo was sentenced to death for a brutal 2024 crime. Notably, Shoko Asahara, leader of the Aum Shinrikyo cult, was executed in 2018.
