💨 Abstract
Ecuador's national assembly elected Niels Olsen, a close ally of President Daniel Noboa, as its new president, securing Noboa a majority to advance his anti-crime and economic reforms. Olsen, a 37-year-old businessman, was supported by 80 legislators from Noboa’s National Democratic Action (ADN) party and smaller factions. Noboa, who won a full term in April, aims to combat rising violence, attract private investment, and comply with an IMF deal.
