The demand for weight-loss drugs in South Africa is rapidly increasing, with Mounjaro, a drug similar to Ozempic, expected to exceed R1.3 billion in sales. Aspen Pharmacare, which distributes Mounjaro, plans to expand its reach into several sub-Saharan countries. The local market for GLP-1 weight-loss drugs has tripled in value over the past 18 months, with Mounjaro capturing over half of the market.
