💨 Abstract
A University of the Free State study found that menstrual products in South Africa, even those marketed as safe, contain hormone-disrupting chemicals. The research, published in the journal Science of the Total Environment, analyzed 16 brands of sanitary pads and 8 types of pantyliners, discovering that each product contained at least two endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). These chemicals can migrate from plastics, adhesives, and manufacturing processes.
