đź’¨ Abstract
The Eastern Cape Geographical Names Committee is pushing to replace colonial-era place names with indigenous ones in three areas: Port Alfred (potentially renamed iCawa or iCoyi), Alexandria (possibly Nkosi Chungwa or eMnyameni), and the Kowie River (possibly iQoyi). This initiative, which follows international guidelines, aims to correct colonial adaptations and reverse cultural erasure.
