đź’¨ Abstract
The South African Geographical Names Council approved 21 name changes in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, sparking debate. Notable changes include renaming Graaff-Reinet to Robert Sobukwe Town, honoring anti-apartheid activist Robert Sobukwe. This proposal divides residents, with some supporting it for inclusivity and others opposing it for preserving historical identity. East London may also be renamed KuGompo City. The process involves public participation and thorough research.
