💨 Abstract
Two former Gauteng education employees were convicted for a R3 million fraud scheme involving ghost employees. They collaborated with an external accomplice, creating and processing payments for non-existent staff. The fraud was uncovered by the department's internal risk investigation. The two employees received sentences of up to 10 years in prison, while the accomplice got a suspended three-year sentence. The Gauteng Department of Education emphasized its commitment to fighting corruption.
