💨 Abstract
A federal judge is preparing to rule on a halt to construction at a controversial immigrant detention center in the Florida Everglades, dubbed "Alligator Alcatraz." Environmental groups and the Miccosukee Tribe argue that the construction violates environmental laws, threatening wetlands and endangered species. The facility, built to house up to 3,000 detainees, has already added 20 acres of asphalt, raising concerns about water runoff and habitat destruction.
