💨 Abstract
The European Union aims to aid in resolving Cyprus' long-standing ethnic division by emphasizing the benefits of a peace accord. EU envoy Johannes Hahn met with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides to revive stalled UN-led negotiations. Cyprus has been divided since Turkey's 1974 invasion, with Turkey recognizing only the northern Turkish Cypriot state. The EU's role is to build confidence and support among all stakeholders, including Turkey.
