💨 Abstract
In response to warnings about understaffing at critical weather forecasting units ahead of hurricane season, NOAA plans to hire for "mission-critical field positions." The hiring pause remains, but these roles are temporary exemptions to stabilize operations. Previous Department of Government Efficiency cuts have led to over 1,000 jobs being lost and many forecast offices struggling to operate, especially overnight.
