💨 Abstract
The U.S. military will end the practice of shooting pigs and goats for medic training, replacing it with simulators. This change, part of the 2025 defense bill, was championed by Rep. Vern Buchanan. While some animal training will continue, animal rights groups celebrate the shift to advanced simulation technology, which they say better prepares medics for real battlefield conditions. The military will still use animals for other types of training and testing, under anesthesia.
