💨 Abstract

Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced that the upcoming legislative elections in March 2026 will include a ballot to summon a National Constituent Assembly. This move follows the Senate's approval of a labor reform bill, which Petro sees as a significant victory for the working class. The president aims to use the Assembly to implement deeper legal reforms. Historically, such a ballot, known as the Séptima Papeleta, was instrumental in drafting Colombia's 1991 Constitution.
