On the final day of the Premier League season, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Newcastle clinched the last Champions League spots. Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest missed out on the top five. Villa had a goal disallowed and eventually lost 2-0 to Manchester United, while Newcastle lost 1-0 at home to Everton. Chelsea defeated Forest 1-0, and City won 2-0 against Fulham, finishing third behind champion Liverpool and Arsenal.
