💨 Abstract

David McBride, an Australian army whistleblower who leaked allegations of war crimes in Afghanistan, lost his appeal to reduce his prison sentence of five years and eight months. McBride argued that he acted in the public interest, but the court rejected his defense. Rights advocates note he is the only person imprisoned over these allegations, while others accused of war crimes remain free. McBride's lawyers plan to appeal to the High Court and call on the Attorney General to pardon him.
