đź’¨ Abstract
Meat prices in South Africa, particularly beef, are rising significantly, impacting household food budgets and contributing to a 5.1% annual food inflation rate in June. Stewing beef prices surged by 21.2% year-on-year. This increase is driven by meat's role as a staple in many diets and is particularly affecting lower- and middle-income households. Families may need to cut back on meat consumption as a result.
