💨 Abstract

Illegal miners are trapped in Bapong, North West, after a shaft collapse, with rescue efforts delayed due to unstable, waterlogged soil. The South African Police Service (SAPS) is working with relevant departments to determine when it will be safe to proceed. The incident highlights increasing illegal mining activity in the area, with 11 miners recently arrested and 10 excavators seized.
