💨 Abstract
A South African boat that won the Cape2Rio race sank during its return journey to Cape Town. The boat, "Angel Wings," suffered catastrophic damage in rough seas, leading to a complete dismasting. All three sailors on board were rescued safely 1,500 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. The crew, including Skipper Sibusiso Sizatu and two other sailors from disadvantaged areas, had previously overcome significant challenges during the race, such as a broken boom.
